the problem is when using HLS live stream with AVPlayer on iOS/ tvOS the player chooses first highest bandwidth then slowly steps down to lowest (within 1-3min) and eventually steps up again then repeats to step down.
the AVPlayer error log sends events:
errorStatusCode: -12888, errorDomain: Optional("CoreMediaErrorDomain"), errorComment: Optional("The operation couldn't be completed. (CoreMediaErrorDomain error -12888 - Playlist File unchanged for longer than 1.5 * target duration

when using 6sec segments the player stays stable at highest bandwidth.
is there a way to avoid this error? in AVPlayer or HLS configuration?

Hello everyone,
I'm working on implementing a screen sharing feature using RPSystemBroadcastPickerView and a Broadcast Upload Extension to share the entire app screen in an iOS application.
The Broadcast Upload Extension is set up following Apple's ReplayKit guidelines. However, I’m encountering an issue during the broadcast startup sequence:
❗ Problem Description
The Screen Broadcast UI appears as expected
I tap “Start Broadcast”
The countdown (3 → 2 → 1) completes
Then it immediately reverts to the "Start Broadcast" screen, and screen sharing does not begin
No error messages are displayed
None of the extension lifecycle methods (broadcastStarted(withSetupInfo:), processSampleBuffer, etc.) are called
There are no logs or crash reports, neither in the main app nor in the extension
✅ What Has Been Verified
Info.plist of the Broadcast Upload Extension includes:
NSExtensionPointIdentifier = com.apple.broadcast-services-upload
NSExtensionPrincipalClass set correctly
RPBroadcastProcessMode = RPBroadcastProcessModeSampleBuffer
preferredExtension is set properly to the extension’s bundle identifier
Extension is listed in the main app's build settings under "Frameworks, Libraries, and Embedded Content"
⚠️ Additional Concern
We noticed that in Xcode (latest version), the Broadcast Upload Extension is listed under "Embedded Frameworks" with the setting "Embed Without Signing", and there is no option to change it to "Embed & Sign". We're wondering if this could be the reason the extension fails to launch correctly at runtime, despite being detected by the broadcast picker.
❓ Questions
Has anyone faced similar issues where the broadcast never starts despite correct setup?
Could the "Embed Without Signing" be causing the system to silently cancel or ignore the extension at runtime?
Are there any provisioning profile or entitlement requirements specific to Broadcast Upload Extensions that might trigger this behavior silently?
Any insights, suggestions, or workarounds would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!
getting an interesting error attempting to compile my app in Xcode 26 beta.

For iOS17 we've had no problem playing Apple Fairplay encrypted content with keys delivered from our key server running on FairPlay Streaming Server SDK 5.1 and subsequently FairPlay Streaming Server SDK 26. It's built and deployed using Xcode Version 26.1.1 (17B100) with no changes to the code and - as expected - the content continued to be successfully decrypted and played (so far so good). However, as soon as a device was updated to iOS26, that device would no longer play the encrypted content.
Devices remaining on iOS17 continue to work normally and the debugging logs are a sanity-check that proves that. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
Here's the code (you should be able to drop it into a fresh iOS Xcode project and provide a server url, content url and certificate).
I am developing an iOS application that supports screen mirroring to Google TV (or Chromecast with Google TV). My goal is to mirror the iPhone/iPad screen in real time to a Google TV device.
What I Have Tried So Far
I have explored multiple approaches but haven't found a direct way to achieve low-latency screen mirroring. Here are some of my findings:
Google Cast SDK:
Google Cast SDK is primarily designed for casting media (videos, images, audio) rather than real-time mirroring. It supports custom receiver applications, but there are no direct APIs for full screen mirroring. Casting a recorded video is possible, but it introduces latency and is not real-time.
ReplayKit for Screen Capture:
RPScreenRecorder.shared().startCapture(handler: ...) allows capturing the iPhone screen as a video stream. However, sending this stream to Google TV in real time is a challenge. I could potentially encode the video as HLS and stream it, but the delay is significant.
RTSP/UDP Streaming:
Some third-party libraries support RTSP/UDP streaming for real-time screen sharing. Google TV does not natively support RTSP, making this approach difficult.
My Questions:
Is it possible to achieve real-time screen mirroring on Google TV using Google Cast SDK? Does Google TV support WebRTC or any low-latency streaming protocol that can be used from iOS? Are there any alternative approaches to mirror an iOS screen to Google TV with minimal latency? I would appreciate any guidance, code examples, or references to relevant documentation.
Hello,
I'm investigating an issue with LL-HLS playback using AVPlayer, specifically during DVR Live seeking (seeking to a past time).
I noticed that in certain seeking scenarios, AVPlayer sends a Blocking Playlist Reload request that includes the _HLS_msn parameter but is missing the _HLS_part parameter.
While I understand this is compliant with the HLS spec, I would like to know the specific criteria AVPlayer uses to decide when to drop the _HLS_part parameter. Does AVPlayer intentionally omit the part info when it determines that loading a specific partial segment is unnecessary during a seek operation?
Clarification on this behavior would help us greatly in debugging our stream delivery.
Thanks in advance.
It's been an ask for a few years and I'm wondering if there are any plans, or whether the '26 SDKs/Tools allow Apple Music to work in the simulator? I develop for the Vision Pro so the usual 'fix' of running on the device is a bit of a hard ask.
At the very least a small sample library that works in the simulator would be welcome (similar to how photos works)
Cheers
I believe this should work:
CFMutableDictionaryRef attrs = CFDictionaryCreateMutable(kCFAllocatorDefault, 0, &kCFTypeDictionaryKeyCallBacks, &kCFTypeDictionaryValueCallBacks);
CFDictionaryAddValue(attrs, kCVImageBufferColorPrimariesKey, kCVImageBufferColorPrimaries_ITU_R_709_2);
CFDictionaryAddValue(attrs, kCVImageBufferTransferFunctionKey, kCVImageBufferTransferFunction_ITU_R_709_2);
CFDictionaryAddValue(attrs, kCVImageBufferYCbCrMatrixKey, kCVImageBufferYCbCrMatrix_ITU_R_709_2);
CVPixelBufferRef pixelBuffer = NULL;
CVPixelBufferCreate(kCFAllocatorDefault, width, height, kCVPixelFormatType_32ARGB, attrs, &pixelBuffer);
assert(CFDictionaryGetCount(CVBufferGetAttachments(pixelBuffer, kCVAttachmentMode_ShouldPropagate)) > 0);
But that last assert fails, so it appears the color info does not get attached.
kCVImageBufferColorPrimariesKey and the others are not one of the keys listed under BufferAttributeKeys, but I think they're supposed to be allowed because they're listed by CMVideoFormatDescriptionGetExtensionKeysCommonWithImageBuffers().
I'm hoping that putting the color matrix info in there will control how AVAssetWriter converts the RGB to YCbCr.

Hi everyone,
I'm running into an issue with AVAudioRecorder when handling interruptions such as phone calls or alarms.
Problem:
When the app is recording audio and an interruption occurs:
I handle the interruption with audioRecorder?.pause() inside AVAudioSession.interruptionNotification (on .began).
On .ended, I check for .shouldResume and call audioRecorder?.record() again.
The recorder resumes successfully, but only the audio recorded after the interruption is saved. The audio recorded before the interruption is lost, even though I'm using the same file URL and not recreating the recorder.
Repro:
Start a recording with AVAudioRecorder
Simulate a system interruption (e.g., incoming call)
Resume recording after the interruption
Stop and inspect the output audio file
Expected: Full audio (before and after interruption) should be saved.
Actual: Only the audio after interruption is saved; the earlier part is missing
Notes:
According to the documentation, calling .record() after .pause() should resume recording into the same file.
I confirmed that the file URL does not change, and I do not recreate the recorder instance.
No error is thrown by the system during this process.
This behavior happens consistently when the app is interrupted and resumed.
Question:
Is this a known issue? Is there a recommended workaround for preserving the full recording when interruptions happen?
Thanks in advance!
Hello!
I've two mics connected to a USB-hub. The USB-hub is then connected to my iPad. Both mics are part of the audio session's list of available inputs.
The problem is that regardless of which mic I select in my app (using setPreferredInput() on the audio session), the audio keeps coming from the mic that was last connected to the USB-hub.
Anyone that knows if this is a limitation in iPadOS/iOS?

Before you post —Camera doesn't work on the Simulator— that's no longer true. I've made a solution that makes the Simulator believe there's an actual hardware device connected, allowing users to stream the macOS camera to the iOS Simulator (see for more info RocketSim's documentation: https://docs.rocketsim.app/features/hzQMSrSga7BGWvxdNVdwYs/simulator-camera-support/58tQ5jvevLNSnyUEA7VgAv)
Now, it works for VNDocumentCameraViewController, but when I try opening DataScannerViewController, I directly run into:
Failed to start scanning: The operation couldn’t be completed. (VisionKit.DataScannerViewController.ScanningUnavailable error 0.)
My question:
How does this view controller determine whether scanning is available?
Is there a certain capability the available AVCaptureDevice's need to support maybe?
Any direction would be helpful for me to make this work for developers, making them build apps faster!
Hi,
our CourAudio server plugin utilizes the SystemConfiguration.framework to store and restore specific shared system wide settings.
While our application can authenticate to utilize the SystemConfiguration.framework to gain write access to the shared configuration settings the CoreAudio server plugin obviously can't have any user interaction and therefor does not authenticate.
Is it possible to authenticate the CoreAudio server plugin to gain write permissions? Are there any entitlements or other means that would allow this?
Thanks!

Hello.
My team and I think we have an issue where our app is asked to gracefully shutdown with a following SIGTERM. As we’ve learned, this is normally not an issue. However, it seems to also be happening while our app (an audio streamer) is actively playing in the background.
From our perspective, starting playback is indicating strong user intent. We understand that there can be extreme circumstances where the background audio needs to be killed, but should it be considered part of normal operation? We hope that’s not the case.
All we see in the logs is the graceful shutdown request. We can say with high certainty that it’s happening though, as we know that playback is running within 0.5 seconds of the crash, without any other tracked user interaction.
Can you verify if this is intended behavior, and if there’s something we can do about it from our end. From our logs it doesn’t look to be related to either memory usage within the app, or the system as a whole.
Best,
John
I'm using the SwiftUI Photos Picker to select videos from the users Photos library and then opening the video using the PhotosPickerItem.
I'm looking for a way to allow the user to open the same video on their other devices as the app uses SwiftData and CloudKit to provide access to a recently watched list of videos.
The URL from the PhotosPickerItem appears to be device specific and so I was looking to see if I can use the itemIdentifier and then the init that takes the itemIdentifier to create the PhotosPickerItem on the other devices. The itemIdentifier however is always nil and so wouldn't be able to be used in this way.
Is there an alternative approach whereby the users can open a video using a PhotosPickerItem and that item would be viewable on their other devices with an item identifier or a URL that is device agnostic. This approach should also not involve copying the video into other storage as it would simply expand the use of the users iCloud storage, providing a less than ideal user experience.
If the user has opened the video from their Photos library, there should be a way to allow the same user (e.g. same Apple ID), to use the same app on another device to open the video again.
Hi there,
Can anyone tell me how to possibly get approved as an Apple News Publisher in 2025?
We attempted in 2024, but received this message from Apple support:
"Thank you for your interest in Apple News. At this time, we're not accepting new applications."
When I inquired further, I got this second response:
"Apple News is no longer accepting unsolicited applications. To learn more about Apple News requirements, visit the Apple News support page. If you have any feedback, please use this form to send us your comments. Keep in mind that while we read all feedback, we are unable to respond to each submission individually."
My questions are:
Is this still the case? (Especially when you are a legit local news outlet)
Is there a link to apply as a news publisher? I don't seem to have that option at all.
Thanks for any feedback.
Hi, when using ApplicationMusicPlayer from MusicKit my app automatically gets the media controls on the lock screen: Play/ Pause, Skip Buttons, Playback Position etc.
I would like to customize these. Tried a bunch of things, e.g. using MPRemoteCommandCenter. So far I haven't had any success.
Does anyone know how I can customize the media controls of ApplicationMusicPlayer.
Thank you.
Hi everyone! I’ve been working with AVFoundation and trying to use the AVMetricEventStreamPublisher to discover media performance metrics, as described in the Apple documentation.
https://developer.apple.com/cn/videos/play/wwdc2024/10113/?time=508
However, when following the example code, I’m not getting the expected results. The performance metrics for both audio and video don’t seem to be captured properly.
Has anyone successfully used this example code? If so, could you share your experience or any solutions you’ve found? Any tips or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Ps. the example code:
AVPlayerItem *item = ...
AVMetricEventStream *eventStream = [AVMetricEventStream eventStream];
id subscriber = [[MyMetricSubscriber alloc] init];
[eventStream setSubscriber:subscriber queue:mySerialQueue]
[eventStream subscribeToMetricEvent:[AVMetricPlayerItemLikelyToKeepUpEvent class]];
[eventStream subscribeToMetricEvent:[AVMetricPlayerItemPlaybackSummaryEvent class]];
[eventStream addPublisher:item];
I'm working on a project to support spatial audio editing, using this sample project as a reference: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cinematic/editing-spatial-audio-with-an-audio-mix
This sample works well on an unedited capture, but does not work for a capture that has already been edited.
The failure is occurring at "let audioInfo = try await CNAssetSpatialAudioInfo(asset: myAsset)", which is throwing "no eligible audio tracks in asset".
I also find that for already edited captures, if i use CNAssetSpatialAudioInfo.assetContainsSpatialAudio, it returns false.
What i mean by "already edited" is that if I take a spatial capture with my iPhone 16, and then edit that capture in the Photos app using the Cinematic effect, and then save the edited output (e.g. edited_capture.mov), I can't import that edited_capture.mov into my project as a spatial audio asset.
Is this intentional behavior or a bug?
If it's intentional, can you describe why?

I'm receiving output from avcapturesession and capturing an image using Vision, but the image is output in landscape orientation instead of portrait.
Even when I set the orientation to up in ciimage, cgimage, and uiimage, the image is still output in landscape orientation.
On iPhones 16 and below, the image is output in portrait orientation.
But on iPhones 17 and above, the image is output in landscape orientation.
Please help.
