how to enumerate build-in media devices?
Hello, I need to enumerate built-in media devices (cameras, microphones, etc.). For this purpose, I am using the CoreAudio and CoreMediaIO frameworks. According to the table 'Daemon-Safe Frameworks' in Apple’s TN2083, CoreAudio is daemon-safe. However, the documentation does not mention CoreMediaIO. Can CoreMediaIO be used in a daemon? If not, are there any documented alternatives to detect built-in cameras in a daemon (e.g., via device classes in IOKit)? Thank you in advance, Pavel

Optimizing UICollectionView Scrolling Performance and High-Quality Image Loading with PHCachingImageManager
Hello, I'm developing an app that displays a photo library using UICollectionView and PHCachingImageManager. I'd like to achieve a user experience similar to the native iOS Photos app, where low-quality images are shown quickly while scrolling, and higher-quality images are loaded for visible cells once scrolling stops. I'm currently using the following approach: While Scrolling: I'm using the UICollectionViewDataSourcePrefetching protocol. In the prefetchItemsAt method, I call startCachingImages with low-quality options to cache images in advance. After Scrolling Stops: In the scrollViewDidEndDecelerating method, I intend to load high-quality images for the currently visible cells. I have a few questions regarding this approach: What is the best practice for managing both low-quality and high-quality images efficiently with PHCachingImageManager? Is it correct to call startCachingImages with fastFormat options and then call it again with highQualityFormat in scrollViewDidEndDecelerating? How can I minimize the delay when a low-quality image is replaced by a high-quality one? Are there any additional strategies to help pre-load high-quality images more effectively?

How to Get Device Orientation in Background (PiP) Mode?
My app is a camera app that supports Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode. Normally, when the device rotates, I get the device orientation from iOS and use it to rotate the camera feed so that the preview stays correctly aligned. However, when the app enters PiP mode, it is considered to be in the background, and I can no longer receive orientation updates from the system. As a result, I can’t apply rotation corrections to the camera video in PiP mode. Is there any way to retrieve device orientation while the app is in the background (specifically during PiP mode)? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

tvOS AVQueuePlayer Now Playing Info in Control Center?
I have a music app I'm developing and having a weird issue where I can see now playing info for every other platform than tvOS. As far as I can tell I have correctly configured the MPNowPlayingInfoCenter MPNowPlayingInfoCenter.default().nowPlayingInfo = nowPlayingInfo MPNowPlayingInfoCenter.default().playbackState = .playing Are there any extra requirements to get my app's now-playing info showing in control center on tvOS? Another strange issue that might be related is I can use the apple TV remote to pause audio but not resume playback, so I feel like there's something I'm missing about registering audio playback on tvOS specifically.

Apple Music web player will not work on wkwebview web browser or electron chromium browser.
Hello, I'm trying to create a webbrowser but currently when signed into apple music webplayer I get the following message when I attempt to play on any versions of my webbrowser: Not available on the web You can listen to this in the Apple Music app. Is there a way to setup DRM (assuming this is the issue) with apple to allow my webbrowser to play this content? I believe Apple TV is also affected. Thank you ahead of time.

It's unclear whether this only affects software-level stabilization (EIS, EIS+OIS, etc) or if it guarantees the complete deactivation of the physical OIS module. AudioUnit may experience silent capture issues on iPadOS 18.4.1 or 18.5.
Among the millions of users of our online product, we have identified through data metrics that the silent audio data capture rate on iPadOS 18.4.1 or 18.5 has increased abnormally. However, we are unable to reproduce the issue. Has anyone encountered a similar issue? AVAudioEngine failing with -10877 on macOS 26 beta, no devices detected via AVFoundation but HAL works
I’m developing a macOS audio monitoring app using AVAudioEngine, and I’ve run into a critical issue on macOS 26 beta where AVFoundation fails to detect any input devices, and AVAudioEngine.start() throws the familiar error 10877. FB#: FB19024508 Strange Behavior: AVAudioEngine.inputNode shows no channels or input format on bus 0. AVAudioEngine.start() fails with -10877 (AudioUnit connection error). AVCaptureDevice.DiscoverySession returns zero audio devices. Microphone permission is granted (authorized), and the app is properly signed and sandboxed with com.apple.security.device.audio-input. However, CoreAudio HAL does detect all input/output devices: Using AudioObjectGetPropertyDataSize and AudioObjectGetPropertyData with kAudioHardwarePropertyDevices, I can enumerate 14+ devices, including AirPods, USB DACs, and BlackHole. This suggests the lower-level audio stack is functional. I have tried: Resetting CoreAudio with sudo killall coreaudiod Rebuilding and re-signing the app Clearing TCC with tccutil reset Microphone Running on Apple Silicon and testing Rosetta/native detection via sysctl.proc_translated Using a fallback mechanism that logs device info from HAL and rotates logs for submission via Feedback Assistant I have submitted logs and a reproducible test case via Feedback Assitant : FB#: FB19024508]

Access to favorited artists from Music API?
It's been well over a year since Apple added favoriting of artists back to Apple Music (the little star icon on an artist page), but yet I still haven't seen a way to get this data from an authenticated user from Music API. I was expecting to hear something about this during the WWDC, but there have been no announcements that I've caught. Has anyone else heard anything? People assume when they provide access to their Apple Music account that we can actually get to the data in their Apple Music account, and we end up looking a little dumb not being able to get this core data.

occasional glitches and empty buffers when using AudioFileStream + AVAudioConverter
I'm streaming mp3 audio data using URLSession/AudioFileStream/AVAudioConverter and getting occasional silent buffers and glitches (little bleeps and whoops as opposed to clicks). The issues are present in an offline test, so this isn't an issue of underruns. Broadcast Upload Extension - Screen Sharing Fails to Start After Countdown (No Errors Logged)
Hello everyone, I'm working on implementing a screen sharing feature using RPSystemBroadcastPickerView and a Broadcast Upload Extension to share the entire app screen in an iOS application. The Broadcast Upload Extension is set up following Apple's ReplayKit guidelines. However, I’m encountering an issue during the broadcast startup sequence: ❗ Problem Description The Screen Broadcast UI appears as expected I tap “Start Broadcast” The countdown (3 → 2 → 1) completes Then it immediately reverts to the "Start Broadcast" screen, and screen sharing does not begin No error messages are displayed None of the extension lifecycle methods (broadcastStarted(withSetupInfo:), processSampleBuffer, etc.) are called There are no logs or crash reports, neither in the main app nor in the extension ✅ What Has Been Verified Info.plist of the Broadcast Upload Extension includes: NSExtensionPointIdentifier = com.apple.broadcast-services-upload NSExtensionPrincipalClass set correctly RPBroadcastProcessMode = RPBroadcastProcessModeSampleBuffer preferredExtension is set properly to the extension’s bundle identifier Extension is listed in the main app's build settings under "Frameworks, Libraries, and Embedded Content" ⚠️ Additional Concern We noticed that in Xcode (latest version), the Broadcast Upload Extension is listed under "Embedded Frameworks" with the setting "Embed Without Signing", and there is no option to change it to "Embed & Sign". We're wondering if this could be the reason the extension fails to launch correctly at runtime, despite being detected by the broadcast picker. ❓ Questions Has anyone faced similar issues where the broadcast never starts despite correct setup? Could the "Embed Without Signing" be causing the system to silently cancel or ignore the extension at runtime? Are there any provisioning profile or entitlement requirements specific to Broadcast Upload Extensions that might trigger this behavior silently? AVSpeechUtterance stutters in CarPlay when connected to a BT headset
We are currently working on a CarPlay navigation app and so far everything is working well except for speaking turn notifications. Our TTS implementation works fine on the phone and works fine on CarPlay if the voice is spoken over the speaker in the car. If users connect a BT headset to the car and listen through that headset, then the voice commands are chopped up / stutter. Why would users use BT headset? Well, we are working on a motorcycle app, and there are no speakers usually on a motorcycle. It sounds like the BT channel is opened and closed repeatedly for every character / word spoken. This happens on different CarPlay devices and different Bluetooth headsets, we have reports from multiple users that they find this behavior annoying and that other apps work fine. Is this a known issue? Are there possible workaround?

Sudden brightness/contrast shifts in videos across multiple apps on iPhone
Hi, I’ve been experiencing a strange issue with video playback on my iPhone. While watching videos, the image will suddenly shift it becomes more greyish, then sometimes briefly goes black, and then returns to normal bright quality. This can happen multiple times during a single video. This is not limited to the Photos app. I’ve seen it happen: In the Photos app when playing videos I recorded myself In Snapchat when watching videos sent by others Occasionally in other social media apps as well Additional details: HDR Video is turned off Apple ProRes is turned off Tried both 4K 60fps and 4K 30fps Camera format set to “Most Compatible” Low Power Mode is off Issue happens whether the phone is cool or warm Doesn’t seem related to the video file itself the same file exported to another device looks fine all the way through These exact same videos play back completely normally on my iPad with no brightness or contrast shifts at all I’m currently on the iOS 17 public beta, but this issue was happening before I installed the beta as well, so it’s not beta-specific It almost feels like the display or system is switching between different brightness/contrast profiles mid playback, regardless of the app. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a way to disable this behavior so the brightness and color stay consistent during video playback? Instagram video embed in WKWebView freezes on start on iOS18.5
Hi everyone! Here's what I observed so far: On device it's reproducible on iOS/iPadOS18.5, but works on iPadOS17.7. On iPhone16 iOS 18.5 simulator that I was extensively using for development it was reproducible until I reset content and settings. On iPhone 16 iOS18.4 simulator, which was also used a lot during development it still works always, so I tend to think it's 18.5 issue. Setting config.websiteDataStore = .nonPersistent() doesn't help. Cleaning WKWebsiteDataStore doesn't help. It works fine using direct URL from the embedded code (see the code below). Can someone provide some insight on how this could be fixed? How can I find the user's "Favorite Songs" playlist?
It sounds simple but searching for the name "Favorite Songs" is a non-starter because it's called different names in different countries, even if I specify "&l=en_us" on the query. So is there another property, relationship or combination thereof which I can use to tell me when I've found the right playlist? Properties I've looked at so far: canEdit: will always be false so narrows things down a little inFavorites: not helpful as it depends on whether the user has favourite the favourites playlist, so not relevant hasCatalog: seems always true so again may narrow things down a bit isPublic: doesn't help Adding the catalog relationship doesn't seem to show anything immediately useful either. Can anyone help? Ideally I'd like to see this as a "kind" or "type" as it has different properties to other playlists, but frankly I'll take anything at this point.

How to disable the built-in speakers and microphone on a Mac
I need to implement a solution through an API or custom driver to completely block out the built-in speakers and microphone of Mac, because I need other apps to use specified external devices as audio input and output. Is there a way to achieve this requirement? What I mean is that even in system preferences, it should not be possible to choose the built-in microphone and speakers; only my external device can be used.
