Xcode 16.2 doesn't support custom SF Symbols 6
I was trying to compile an app that contains custom SF Symbols with Template 6.0 in Xcode (using Version 16.2 (16C5032a) on my Macbook running Sonoma 14.7.3 (23H417)). However, when building, I got the error The SVG file provided for the symbol image set ’(SVG file name)‘ is not suitable: Template format 6.0 is newer than the version that this software supports (5.0) for the custom symbols' SVGs. Attempting to preview the symbols in Xcode also seems to crash and force Xcode to quit. I am assuming this is something to do with the symbols not being compatible with my Xcode version, but the problem is that it should work since I am using Xcode 16.2, the latest stable version currently. The SVGs themselves even mention "Requires Xcode 16 or greater", which means they should work. Unfortunately, I could not find anything about this online (except another old post from 2023 with no answers), so I'm at a loss. The only possible cause that I can think of is because I'm running Sonoma instead of Sequoia (I'm using an ancient Intel Macbook which doesn't support Sequoia), but the official SF Symbols website says that it requires Ventura or later. Xcode 16 simulator slow to load - unusable
I'm on version 16 of simulator and Xcode. Last Friday, starting the simulator would take 10 seconds at the most. Now, it takes at least 10 minutes. My app target is the same and nothing in my app itself has changed. There's no new software installed and it has plenty of RAM and disk. When I target my phone, it is instant. So I'm testing / debugging everything on my phone now. When I use the simulator, the initial load is about 10 minutes, then it's fine (using the app itself). But something is causing it to hang when loading. And like I said - last week it was fine. If it was slow when running on my phone, I'd think it was something with me/the app. But it's not. This is the only messages I get in the system log. Sign in with Sandbox account in Xcode Simulator
Hello! I'm working on implementing SwiftUI + StoreKit2 IAP in my app, and Xcode testing has been fantastic, now I'd like to test my app with Sandbox, where I created a Sandbox account, and it works on my physical device, I can log in, make transactions, etc. (btw, feedback: please improve the UX for Sandbox testing, it's really clumsy compared to Xcode testing with Transaction Manager) My problem is that when I'd like to log in with my Sandbox account on the simulator (Settings -> Developer -> Sandbox Apple Account (at the bottom) -> Sign in), it doesn't work, it fails silently. I know it authenticates well, because if I type in the wrong password, I get an error popup, but with the right password, it just fails silently, hides the login sheet and the "Sign in" text remains "Sign in" (on my phone when I log in, the "Sign in" is replaced with the email address of the Sandbox account). I know many people get errors, and they recommend to go icloud.com and acccept TOS (done that), also to download the latest iOS for the simulator (also done), these are not a problem for me, as I don't get any errors. My authentication works, but for some reason the simulator still won't log in, it fails silently, and I see no errors/reason why. Tried with different simulators (latest iOS version), same result, tried to reboot the simulator, same result. Any idea why is this happening? Thank you, sendai

SwiftUI Preview Runtime linking failure
Swift Package: I have an old objc library, that is added as XCFramework to swift package as a binary target. targets: [ .target( name: "CoreServices", dependencies: ["OldContainer"], path: "CoreServices" ), .binaryTarget( name: "OldContainer", path: "Frameworks/OldContainer.xcframework" ), ] This serves the purpose, it builds fine and able to run on simulator. However this framework is breaking the Xcode previews. Error: == PREVIEW UPDATE ERROR: [Remote] JITError: Runtime linking failure Additional Link Time Errors: Symbols not found: [ _OBJC_CLASS_$_SCSecureServicesFactory ] ================================== | [Remote] LLVMError | | LLVMError: LLVMError(description: "Failed to materialize symbols: { (static-Login, { __replacement_tag$1015 }) }") == VERSION INFO: Tools: 16C5032a OS: 23G93 PID: 38675 Model: MacBook Pro Arch: arm64e == ENVIRONMENT: openFiles = [ /Users/../Documents/GitHub/Packages/Login/Sources/Login/LoginView.swift ] wantsNewBuildSystem = true newBuildSystemAvailable = true activeScheme = Launch activeRunDestination = iPhone 16 Pro Max variant iphonesimulator arm64 workspaceArena = [x] buildArena = [x] buildableEntries = [ Login Login ] runMode = JIT Executor == SELECTED RUN DESTINATION: Simulator - iOS 18.2 | iphonesimulator | arm64 | iPhone 16 Pro Max | no proxy == EXECUTION MODE OVERRIDES: Workspace JIT mode user setting: true Falling back to Dynamic Replacement: false Based on the error, SCSecureServicesFactory is an objc file inside the XCFramework. Since this is a binary target, I could not add a swift setting module map flag to the XCFramework. Is there any workaround to get the previews working ? Or Am I blocked until the library is converted into swift ?

Adding custom document icon for document based Mac OS 16 App
Starting with Mac OS 16, Document Icons can be generated by defining a background and a Foreground element (see Apple Documentation). I've defined the mentioned elements in my Assets and in the info.plist. Unfortunately I still can't see my custom icons. Neither on existing files, nor on newly saved files. I even added a Legacy Icon - which is also not shown in Mac OS. The full source code of the app is over at gitHub . Would be great if someone could point out what I'm not seeing here. Thanks a lot, Holger Here the relevant part of the info.plist <array> <dict> <key>CFBundleTypeIconFile</key> <string>Legacy</string> <key>CFBundleTypeIconSystemGenerated</key> <integer>1</integer> <key>CFBundleTypeName</key> <string>StateTransfer Request</string> <key>CFBundleTypeRole</key> <string>Editor</string> <key>LSHandlerRank</key> <string>Default</string> <key>LSItemContentTypes</key> <array> <string>de.holgerkrupp.statetransfer.request</string> </array> <key>NSDocumentClass</key> <string>NSDocument</string> </dict> </array> <key>UTExportedTypeDeclarations</key> <array> <dict> <key>UTTypeConformsTo</key> <array/> <key>UTTypeDescription</key> <string>StateTransfer Request</string> <key>UTTypeIconFile</key> <string>Legacy</string> <key>UTTypeIcons</key> <dict> <key>UTTypeIconBackgroundName</key> <string>IconBackground</string> <key>UTTypeIconBadgeName</key> <string>IconForeground</string> <key>UTTypeIconText</key> <string>REST</string> </dict> <key>UTTypeIdentifier</key> <string>de.holgerkrupp.statetransfer.request</string> <key>UTTypeTagSpecification</key> <dict> <key>public.filename-extension</key> <array> <string>httprequest</string> </array> <key>public.mime-type</key> <array> <string>application/json</string> </array> </dict> </dict> </array> <key>UTImportedTypeDeclarations</key> <array> <dict> <key>UTTypeConformsTo</key> <array/> <key>UTTypeDescription</key> <string>StateTransfer Request</string> <key>UTTypeIconFile</key> <string>Legacy</string> <key>UTTypeIcons</key> <dict> <key>UTTypeIconBackgroundName</key> <string>IconBackground</string> <key>UTTypeIconBadgeName</key> <string>IconForeground</string> <key>UTTypeIconText</key> <string>REST</string> </dict> <key>UTTypeIdentifier</key> <string>de.holgerkrupp.statetransfer.request</string> <key>UTTypeTagSpecification</key> <dict> <key>public.filename-extension</key> <array> <string>httprequest</string> </array> <key>public.mime-type</key> <array> <string>application/json</string> </array> </dict> </dict> </array>

Previews due to SwiftData Predicates in Xcode 16.3
My preview crashes whenever I compare my model's value to a constant's stored value. I use struct constants with a stored value as alternatives to enums, (IIRC ever since the beginning) enums never worked at all with .rawValue or computed properties. This crashes when it runs on Xcode 16.3 beta and iOS 18.4 in previews. It doesn't appear to crash in simulator. @Model class Media { @Attribute(.unique) var id: UUID = UUID() @Attribute var type: MediaType init(type: MediaType) { self.type = type } static var predicate: (Predicate<Media>) { let image = MediaType.image.value let predicate = #Predicate<Media> { media in media.type.value == image } return predicate } } struct MediaType: Codable, Equatable, Hashable { static let image: MediaType = .init(value: 0) static let video: MediaType = .init(value: 1) static let audio: MediaType = .init(value: 2) var value: Int } My application crashes with "Application crashed due to fatalError in Schema.swift at line 320." KeyPath \Media.<computed 0x000000034082a33c (MediaType)>.value points to a field (<computed 0x000000034082a33c (MediaType)>) that is unknown to Media and cannot be used. This appears to also occur if I am using a generic/any func and use protocols to access a property which is a simple String, such as id or name, despite it being a stored SwiftData attribute. I filed a bug report, but looking to hear workarounds.

Content Blocker Disappears from Mac Safari Settings
I have had content blockers in the Mac App Store for years. Ever since moving to Sonoma, doing a clean build or archive in XCode deletes the extension from Safari settings since it never gets into the built app. The only way for me to get it back is to remove the DerivedData and target, reboot, and create a target with a different name. That works and stays around in Safari settings as long as I only build and don't clean. However, a clean or an archive removes it again. Restoring a version of the project from Time Machine that was posted to the App Store weeks or months ago doesn't work. However I can download the version of the app in the App Store, and it works, but I can't build it now from the source code that was used to build that version without going through the above process. Moving from Sonoma 14.7.1 to 14.7.2 didn't work. I would move to Sequoia if I had reason to believe that would work, but I don't. Safari 18.2, Sonoma 14.7.2, 32GB, 2.2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7

Tone mapping SDR content for HDR composition
If you have two video segments, one HDR and one SDR, next to one another in a composition, the SDR one appears dark, since its max luminance will be lower than the max luminance of the HDR clip. iMovie handles this well by (reverse) tone mapping the SDR content to make it look HDR in an HDR composition. This is what I want to achieve. I've looked into algorithms to do this, and the best that I can find is the conversion from RGB to YCbCr described in Table 4 of BT.2020, followed by conversion method A (Section 4.2, table 4) of BT.2446-1. I have these implemented in a Core Image kernel, available at this repo. The issue that I'm seeing is that the colors are still much too hot, and while there are frames that appear close to properly tone mapped, it doesn't come close to the accuracy of iMovie's approach. If someone is an expert in colorimetry, etc., I'd really appreciate a breakdown of what I'm doing wrong here. To be specific: Assuming non-constant luminance for the YCbCr conversion Using a Metal Core Image kernel for the actual tone mapping The video composition uses Core Image filters directly The video composition is using BT.2020 colorimetry and the PQ transfer function. Below is a comparison of two screenshots, one using an unaltered HDR asset, and the other using the same asset transcoded to SDR with QuickTime, and reverse tone mapped to HDR for playback. Is there something I'm missing?

Run on multiple simulators
I am developing a game that has 3 team members. I can manually start up 3 simulators and run the game for developing/testing but seem like there should be a simple way to click build/run and have it launch on all three automatically. Does anyone know how to do this or if its even possible without writing some scripts?

XCFrameworks deploying .a / include to output target directory
Hello Friends, We have a strange bug that Xcode is deploying static binaries from within .XCFramework into the CONFIGURATION_BUILD_DIR An example of our xcframeworks structure is: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>AvailableLibraries</key> <array> <dict> <key>BinaryPath</key> <string>libglfw3.a</string> <key>HeadersPath</key> <string>Headers</string> <key>LibraryIdentifier</key> <string>macos-arm64_x86_64</string> <key>LibraryPath</key> <string>libglfw3.a</string> <key>SupportedArchitectures</key> <array> <string>arm64</string> <string>x86_64</string> </array> <key>SupportedPlatform</key> <string>macos</string> </dict> </array> <key>CFBundlePackageType</key> <string>XFWK</string> <key>XCFrameworkFormatVersion</key> <string>1.0</string> </dict> </plist> for open source creative coding toolkit https://github.com/openframeworks/openFrameworks Can you see any issues in the above. Some ideas for me is to generate xcarchive instead of deploying the .a in the xcframeworks, however that does not explain the include being packaged there, so I think this might be a Xcode issue

Build input file cannot be found
Hi! When I run my project on a real device (iPhone 15 Pro), I encounter the following error: Build input file cannot be found: '/Users/Interexy/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/SinglePhotoBook-geecnphrjebsisdmhcyzlsefvphm/Build/Products/Debug-iphoneos/SinglePhotoBook.app/SinglePhotoBook'. Did you forget to declare this file as an output of a script phase or custom build rule which produces it? How can I solve this? I've already reinstalled Pods and cleaned DerivedData a million times, but the issue persists. Xcode: Version 15.4
